Overview

Demographic corrections on Aadhaar — specifically name, date of birth, and gender — cannot be completed through the online self-service portal for security reasons. You must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra in person with valid supporting documents. UIDAI has set strict limits on corrections: • Name: Can be corrected up to 2 times in total (minor corrections + major changes combined) • Date of Birth: Can be corrected only 1 time • Gender: Can be corrected only 1 time Important: Name corrections (including minor spelling errors) are NOT available through any online portal. Documents Required

For NAME CORRECTION: PAN card, Voter ID (EPIC), Passport, Driving Licence, SSLC / SSC (school leaving) certificate, Marriage certificate (for name change after marriage), Gazette notification (for legal name change)
For DATE OF BIRTH CORRECTION: Birth certificate (from municipality or gram panchayat), School leaving / SSLC / SSC certificate (with DOB), Passport, PAN card, Declaration from Tehsildar or Magistrate
For GENDER CORRECTION: Medical certificate from a registered government doctor confirming gender, Passport (if updated), Court order (in case of legal gender identity correction)
All documents must be originals at the time of submission, along with a self-attested photocopy

How to Apply Online

For PAN correction, visit an NSDL/UTI service centre. Note: For income tax purposes, the name on PAN and Aadhaar must match for successful PAN-Aadhaar linking.
Correction request rejected — letter received saying 'insufficient documents'
Re-apply with stronger supporting documents. For name correction, PAN card or passport are the strongest proofs — prefer these over utility bills or voter ID which may have different name formats. For DOB, a birth certificate from the municipality is ideal; if unavailable, SSLC certificate is widely accepted.
Name change after marriage — old name still on Aadhaar
Visit Aadhaar Seva Kendra with your marriage certificate as supporting document. The marriage certificate must be registered (issued by the Registrar of Marriages). If not registered, use a gazette notification of name change or a court affidavit supported by other ID proof in new name.
Date of Birth already corrected once and is still wrong
