❓ Quick FAQs
Q. Where do I apply for a birth certificate online?
Apply on the national Civil Registration System (CRS) portal at crsorgi.gov.in or your state's integrated e-district portal. Hospital births are usually auto-registered; home births require citizen self-registration.
Q. Is a digital birth certificate valid for passport and Aadhaar?
Yes. Digitally signed certificates from the CRS portal or DigiLocker are legally valid for all official purposes including passport application and Aadhaar enrolment.
Q. What if no birth certificate was ever issued?
For births older than 1 year that were never registered, you need a court order from a First-Class Executive Magistrate. Carry school records, vaccination card, hospital documents, or affidavits as evidence.
Q. How do I correct the name on a birth certificate?
Name addition or correction within 15 years of registration is done at the issuing Registrar's office using Form 7 (or the state equivalent), school records, and an affidavit. After 15 years, a gazette notification or court order may be required.
