How to Download Ayushman Bharat e-Card Online (Step by Step)
Once you have confirmed eligibility, the actual download takes under three minutes if your Aadhaar is linked to your mobile number. Here is exactly what to do:
The most common point of failure is Step 05 — people try to log in with a mobile number that is not Aadhaar-linked and the OTP never arrives. If that happens to you, skip the online process entirely and go to a CSC or an empanelled hospital. The biometric route is slower but it works without any mobile linkage requirement.

- Select your State and District from the dropdowns
- Filter by Speciality (e.g., Cardiology, Oncology, Orthopaedics)
- The list of all nearby empanelled hospitals will appear with address and contact number
Call the PMJAY helpline 14555 and ask the agent for hospitals in your area for a specific treatment. They can search by your PIN code and speciality in real time.
Save the list of two or three empanelled hospitals closest to you in your contacts right now. It sounds overly cautious until the moment you need it at 2am and cannot think clearly.
What is Covered Under Ayushman Bharat?
PMJAY covers 1,949 medical and surgical procedures across 27 medical specialties. Coverage is for hospitalisation of 24 hours or more and includes pre-hospitalisation expenses (3 days), post-hospitalisation follow-up (15 days), all medicines, diagnostics, ICU charges, surgeon fees, room charges, and transport allowance.
The ₹5 lakh cover is per family per year — there is no individual cap, and there is no cap on family size. All members of an enrolled family share the ₹5 lakh pool.
The mental health inclusion is something I did not expect when I first looked at this scheme. Inpatient psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment are covered — which matters enormously for families dealing with those conditions, who often have no insurance and nowhere to turn.
